Manchester United appear to be in the market for one big attacking talent this month.

Marcus Rashford he continues to be linked with a move away this transfer window, with the latest report stating that his representatives have met with Barcelona and that is the Englishman’s preferred destination should he leave. Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho is also the subject of interest from Napoli, but the Italian side have yet to meet United’s valuation of the Argentine, but that doesn’t mean they won’t do so between now and the deadline.

In terms of arrivals, the Red Devils are quite limited in what they can do, given the PSR, but this week they have started negotiations with Leece over the signing of left back Dorgu. It was reported that an offer worth €27m (£22.8m) plus add-ons was sent to the Italian side but was rejected as falling short of what Leece wanted for a defender.

Manchester Utd eye move for 21-year-old left-back to replace Dorgu

Dorgu remains of interest to United, but he is not the only left-back on their radar, as according to Fabrizio Romano, Man United are considering re-signing Alvaro Carreras from Benfica, which would be a much easier job for one key reason.

The Spain Under-21 international is already familiar with Old Trafford, having been snapped up by the Red Devils in 2020 and spent four years in their academy before moving to Benfica in the summer. The Portuguese club signed Carreras to a five-year deal, but part of the deal saw United insert an €18m (£15m) buyout clause, which they could activate this month.

The Red Devils have been keeping a close eye on the full-back, as reported scouts were present at the recent match between Benfica and Bolognaand Carreras impressed, as he was named player of the match. 21-year-old, who was called “incredibly” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, scored three goals and registered four assists in all competitions for Benfica this season.

These are numbers that will surely impress Amor as he tries to find the perfect left winger, who can not only defend, but is also capable of getting forward and being a threat in attack. United have struggled at left-back for a few seasons now, and with Diogo Dalot still having to rely on that role, Amorim feels now is the right time to address that, especially with Tyrell Malacia has been linked with a move away and Luke Shaw remains absent.
