Former England captain Michael Vaughan heaped praise on Arshdeep Singh after he became India’s leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket during the opening match of the five-match T20I series against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22.
Arshdeep Singh finished with impressive figures of 2/17 in his quota of 4 overs to help India restrict England to 132 in their 20 overs in the first T20I. During his spell, the left-arm pacer surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal’s tally of 96 wickets to become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 97 scalps.

The 25-year-old has hardly missed any of India’s T20I matches since making his debut in 2022 in the shorter format of the game. After his latest milestone, Michael Vaughan hailed Arshdeep Singh’s ability to swing the ball both ways, saying he has now become a reliable leader of the bowling attack.

The Indian pacer’s T20I career has seen a meteoric rise and he is just three wickets away from the landmark 100-wicket milestone, he can achieve this milestone in the second T20I match against England in Chennai on January 25.
A cricket pundit believes this is just the beginning of what could be a record-breaking journey for Arshdeep Singh. Vaughan further predicted that Arshdeep could set a huge record by the end of his career which might prove difficult for others to surpass in the future.

Cricbuzz quoted Michael Vaughan as saying: “He’s a superb actor—he’s got that ability to move the ball both ways. He seems to like the pressure of leading the charge and being a trendsetter. He is approaching his hundredth [wickets]but in the end they will get much more.”
He added: “They will have to catch him. I think he will get plenty. [If] he’s going to play so much T20 cricket for the next few years, he’s going to get a number on the board by the time he hangs up his boots which could be quite difficult to catch.”

Meanwhile, former India pacer Zaheer Khan said Arshdeep Singh’s consistency in T20I cricket has been nothing short of outstanding. The legendary bowler said the Punjab lad’s ability to make an impact with the new ball has only improved with time and will continue with every game.

The former World Cup winner pointed out that Arshdeep took every opportunity to shine, especially when senior bowlers are often rested in the T20I format of the game. His consistent performances have not only made him a key player for the men in blue but also boosted his confidence.
Zaheer Khan signed off by saying, “In the Indian system, the T20I format has been the preferred format where the senior bowlers are rested and the only guy who has played consistently has been Arshdeep. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The best wicket taker in the format will surely give him confidence going forward.”
