Abhishek Sharma hit a brutal half-century with the bat in the first IND vs ENG T20I

Abhishek opened the innings for his team and made a mockery of the 133-run chase. He went after the bowlers of the England cricket team and pelted them all over the park, squeezing his class with the bat and hitting sixes and fours for fun.

Abhishek batted a brutal half-century and reached his fifty in just 20 balls. The batsman finished with an innings of 79 with just 34 balls to go with 5 fours and 8 sixes, batting at a strike rate of over 232 and helping the team chase down the target within 13 overs.

You have to be very careful with talents like Abhishek Sharma – Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar spoke about Abhishek Sharma, saying that India must be careful with the batsman, who has consistently scored 50 at a strike rate of over 200. He emphasized that the batsman would take a lot of risks and not worry about getting out. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said:

“The ability to do that consistently puts up these 50-plus points at a strike rate well ahead of 200. Now, this is where you know you have to be very careful with talents like Abhishek Sharma, and we mentioned that in the preview because we see it in some 10 -15 innings and now for India, he has three scores of this and lots of low scores in the middle.

“So he’s somebody who’s going to take a lot of chances. He’s not going to worry about getting out even towards the end when he was playing those shots. It was almost like he was tempting fate the way he was hitting. So he’s that bit of a hitter , but when it starts, that’s what it does.”

If you keep batting like this where there is real caution, you won’t get consistency – Sanjay Manjrekar on Abhishek Sharma

Sanjay Manjrekar further emphasized that with the way Abhishek Sharma is batting, he will not be able to become consistent. While talking about how India should handle the young batter, he added:

“So you’ve got to if you keep hitting like this where there’s really caution in the wind, then you’re not going to get consistency. Maybe that will come with maturity, but that’s not to be blamed on him because then others can, you know, cash in when he fails. Now he’s got hundred, he has 50 and now 70 ak, and that is, and two of those innings came against a good bowling attack last for South Africa this England.

“The youth and just the confidence of the youngsters playing in the IPL, which is an important reason that they don’t get upset by all these big foreign names like we did during our playing days, because they’ve actually been with them a lot and occasionally even you knew them belted around the park in the IPL.”
