West Brom have hit an “animal” worth more than Isaac Price

West Bromwich Albion fans traveling to Middlesbrough later today will be excited by the new ones Tony Mowbray era awaits as the Baggies hunt for more wins to cement their place in the Priority playoff picture.

Indeed, the West Midlands side currently sit just sixth on goal difference, with tonight’s opponents just below them looking to leapfrog.

Mowbray will be hoping to win again in the long game but will not yet be able to call on the new face who looks set to be his first acquisition.

Isaac Price’s move to West Brom

It was widely reported that Isaac Price is getting closer to don the Baggies strip, with a medical already underway after the former Everton man flew in from Standard Liege to seal a return to England.

Mowbray will be overjoyed at the prospect of working with the 21-year-old who can really give promotion candidates a boost throughout midfield, with the Northern Ireland international capable of playing in a holding role, as a number ten or as a traditional presence in the middle of the park.

He could form a fantastic working relationship with Alex Mowatt upon his arrival, then, with a window that gives the Baggies plenty of time to add depth ahead of a grueling promotion race.

The West Brom star is worth more than Price

Nothing is set in stone for Price to slot into Mowbray’s starting XI straight away, with the midfielder already in the building and excelling away from any talk of new signings joining. He is actually worth more than The 21-year-old has a reported fee of £1.7m.

The player in question here is Jayson Molumby, who is now front and center for many of the Baggies’ starting lineups after struggling after a turbulent 2023/24 campaign.

In total, the Irishman has just started 12 games for his Championship side that season, as the likes of Okay Yokuslu took over first-team duties at the expense of the 25-year-old.

However, he cannot be so easily overlooked now with 19 starts coming his way in league action, as Molumby’s reputation as a tough, no-nonsense fighter pleases those who watch him week in and week out at the Hawthorns.

His display against Stoke City last time out exemplified this brave nature – which will surely appeal to Mowbray upon his arrival – with a hugely impressive ten duels won, on top too firing three attempts in the Potters goal as an equally tenacious presence in attack.

On the back of his significant improvement on the pitch – as can be seen above – the West Midlands side managed to tie Molumby for extended contract until 2028 earlier this month.

So he’ll want to ensure his particular starting spot remains just that even with Price coming through the door, as healthy competition begins to emerge in the Baggies’ first-team ranks.

After all, as a direct result of his increased importance at the Hawthorns, the number eight’s transfer value is higher than Price’s, with Transfermarkt estimating the midfield “animal” – as Carlos Corberan once labeled it – is now worth around HRK 100 The £2.5 million mark.

Mowbray will be pleased to have plenty of talent like Molumby at his disposal, and the 61-year-old is praying his emotional return to management begins with a win away to Boro.
