Wolves are now trying to seal a £1.7m deal to sign the 6ft 2 ace for Pereira
Wolves now they want to sign a potential deal this winter as they look to strengthen Vitor Pereira ranks hoping to stay a Premier League foreign in 2025, it was announced.
Wolves concede goals
Ahead of their clash with Chelsea, Wolves have already conceded 48 goals this season in just 21 games and their leaky defense has shown little sign of improvement in recent weeks despite a change of manager.
Vitor Pereira began his reign with a clean sheet but Wolves conceded at least twice in each of their next three Premier League games and also hosted Bristol City in the FA Cup.
With the joint second worst defense in the Premier League, the Old Gold will need to address that if they are to have any chance of staying in the top flight this season, sitting on the brink of the relegation zone as things stand.
Connected
So far, Wolves have been slow to move in the transfer market, although they have filled a hole in central defense with the arrival of Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade Reims in a €20m (£17m) deal.
One player who won’t be coming though is Manu Silva, who is he is reportedly on the verge of moving to Benfica despite what he has agreed the conditions regarding the transfer to Wolves this winter, he joined former Wolves boss Bruno Lage in Lisbon.
However, that hasn’t stopped Wolves from stepping up, and now it’s claimed they are looking to sign a new goalkeeper for the second half of the campaign.
The Wolves are eyeing a bargain shooter
This comes after a report in Spain claims that Wolves are one of two Premier League sides showing a strong interest in signing Leganes goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic this month as they look to address their nagging defensive issues.
Neither Jose Sa nor Sam Johnstone had good seasons in 24/25, with Gary O’Neil dropping the former before Pereira brought him back into the starting line-up.
Between the two of them they are conceded almost 9 goals more than they should have by expected goals after a shot, a number that is more than double that of the next worst team.
Now Wolves may have found a ready solution in the form of 34-year-old Dmitrović. The 2ft 2 goalkeeper arrived at Leganes in the summer after a Europa League-winning spell with Sevilla and has enjoyed a renaissance between the goals.
Although he hasn’t made the most saves in LaLiga, he leads the way in goals prevented, keeping almost 4 more than he should have, a figure that would currently rank him third in the Premier League.
According to the report, the goalkeeper is available for just €2m (£1.7m) and it is claimed that his “experience in European football, combined with an affordable price tag, makes him a very attractive option for interested teams”, with Leicester City also in the running the race for his signature.
While it’s certainly not a long-term solution, if Dmitrovic manages to keep Wolves in the Premier League, he would be a bargain at less than £2m, a fee that would be repaid many times over by Premier League status.
