Liverpool centre-back Ibrahim Konata has confirmed he has been offered a new contract at Anfield which has yet to be signed.

While Liverpool have a number of big names out of contract this summer – Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold face uncertain futures – Konate is one of two regular starters whose contracts expire in 2026, alongside left-back Andy Robertson.

On the eve of Tuesday Champions League clash with LilleKonate confirmed that he has been offered a new contract Liverpoolbut was less forthcoming when asked if he planned to sign him.

“This is another conversation,” said the 25-year-old. “I’m really focused on what’s going to happen now. We’ll see what happens.”

The Times Konate’s position could depend on Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold. The Frenchman may hold off on a decision until he has a clearer idea of what the team looks like around him, not least because two of the potential high-profile departures this summer are from his defensive line.

“Everybody knows Virgil and everybody knows his quality,” Konate said of his centre-back partner. “For me, he is the best, nobody is better than him in this position.

“I learned a lot from him and other players [Joel] Matip, Joe Gomez and other players who do not play in my position. I’ve never told him that, but I’ve always said in interviews that I just want to be better than him one day and that’s why I’m working hard to reach this level one day. I think he would be proud.”
