New LSG captain Rishabh Pant has revealed the team he thought would pick him in the IPL 2025 auction

After nine years of work with Capitals of Delhi in Indian Premier League (IPL)star striker goalkeeper Rishabh Pant finally announced by the Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)a relatively new player in the IPL got hold of Pant and bought him for a record fee of INR 27 crores. However, the whole process of this mammoth signing was not as smooth as it seems. Pant himself was surrounded by thoughts and reservations ahead of the auction as he discovered the franchise he thought would actually buy him for the season.

In a special discussion vl. LSG Sanjiv Goenka announced that Pant will be their new captain in the upcoming season. He previously managed the franchise KL Rahul before being released following a disappointing end to the previous campaign under him. Pant will now lead a star-studded IPL 2025 LSG side in attendance David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Aiden Markram and many others.

However, during that announcement, Pant revealed what he was thinking ahead of the mega-auction. According to Pant, he speculated on two teams going for the 27-year-old explosive batsman and his guess was not far from reality at all.

“Mereko andar se ek hi tension tha, woh tha Punjab (I had only one tension inside and that was Punjab). The second largest (wallet) was 82 crowns. Punjab had 112 crores. When Shreyas (Iyer) went there, I thought I might go to LSG. I thought there was a possibility,” Pant said while talking to Star Sports.

Pant loaded before the upcoming IPL season

Additionally in his discussion with HotstarPant also spoke about his feelings after being named LSG captain ahead of the new seasons and expressed his commitment to the franchise.

“Incredibly. Right now, I have only one word: I’m overwhelmed. Just like a player, when your owner supports you in this way and helps you, your level of confidence and commitment will go to 200%” Added new LSG skipper.

LSG owner Goenka further spoke about the build up to the moment before he bought Pant for LSG and also spoke about the confidence level he had in his mind to get the dough for the star goalkeeper for his side.

“I wanted to get Rishabh Pant, which was the bottom line. I didn’t care about others and their opinions about which team wanted Pant. I was convinced that I wanted to get Rishabh Pant and I knew that no one could match my offer. I was never stressed. But we wanted Rishabh at any cost, whatever the cost,” Goenka said.
