President Donald Trump had a taped message for college football fans who tuned into ESPN to watch the national championship game between Notre Dame and Ohio State on Monday night.
Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States earlier in the day. Although he had already been to the national championships as president, he could not go since then his first day back in the White House. The game seemed to be still on his mind.

“Greetings to my dear fellow Americans. This has been a historic and exciting day for our country. Our people have suffered greatly in recent years, but starting now, we will take America back and make America safer, richer and prouder than ever before,” Trump said. .
“We will have a nation full of compassion, strength, and exceptionalism. With our might and power, we will stop wars and bring our world to peace. We will be respected again and we will be welcomed again — admired as we haven’t been in many, many years. We will put America first, and in doing so, we will make America great again.”

Trump praised the excitement he’s seen across the country since defeating former Vice President Kamala Harris in the election. He also had a message for players competing in the game.
“With less than three months since the election, you’ve already seen it happen. You can feel the excitement and you can see the confidence and spirit returning to our nation. Together, we will lead our county to great new heights. America’s golden age has just begun.
“To all the players and fans watching tonight, I know it’s been a long, hard road. It’s been a long season, but you’ve got two great teams, and come to the game and come out and fight hard and fair and let the better team win. And I’ll enjoy watching it, and good night.”
