Tottenham manager Postecoglou hasn’t lost ‘faith or determination’ despite fans’ anger at Everton defeat

Ange Postecoglou says his belief that he can turn Tottenham’s season around has not wavered despite a sixth defeat in eight league games this afternoon.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 at Everton with a late second-half comeback giving the result an element of respectability after a largely uninspiring performance at Goodison Park.

The relegation-threatened hosts led 3-0 at half-time after tries from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye were added to an Archie Gray own goal.

Spurs recovered after the break but were unable to equalize after goals from Dejan Kulusevski and substitute Richarlison.

The away fans took their anger out on Postecoglou and the players after the final whistle, but the Australian insisted he would continue to work hard to find a solution.

Asked if his faith had begun to falter, he told Sky Sports: “No, it hasn’t. If you look at the situation we’re in, it will eventually dissipate. I certainly hope and believe that it will. We will give ourselves the opportunity to gain consistency in performance and results.

“I certainly didn’t lose faith or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half that they didn’t either.”

We struggled in the first half – Ange

The injured Spurs are 15th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

Postecoglou added: “It’s a difficult result. We struggled to really get into the game in the first half and that gave Everton the momentum. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb but the players certainly tried to get the game back but we just failed.

“We couldn’t really take control of the game. We struggled to make any moves with and without the ball and that allowed them to get in behind us. We had some chances that we probably should have taken at the beginning, but in the end it wasn’t enough.

“We are quite stretched. We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. We didn’t have full control of our organization and Everton took advantage of that and we paid the price for it. They work [Dragusin] had to take it off due to a deep cut and restructuring.

“In the second half we had a good part of the game. We started strongly and I thought Richarlison made a difference and a presence and Mikey Moore gave us something on the left.”

Tottenham are looking for moves in January

The transfer window is open and Spurs are working hard to strengthen their squad.

“It will be urgent, but I don’t have to say it, everyone can see it,” Postecoglou said. “I have no problem with the way the club is going about it, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help that is safe and we hope to find a solution in the next 10 days or so. It’s really inconvenient, we’re not the only ones on the market. The club is trying very hard.”
