This is the worst team in the history of Manchester United, admits Amorim after the defeat to Brighton
Ruben Amorim admitted this may be “the worst team in Manchester United’s history” after this afternoon’s 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton.
United were second best behind the Seagulls and remain rooted in 13th place in the Premier League after their sixth defeat in nine league games.
Yankuba Minteh put Brighton ahead and, although Bruno Fernandes equalized from the penalty spot, Kauro Mitoma and Georginio Rutter added second-half goals for Fabian Hurzeler’s side.

Afterwards, Amorim tried to outline the magnitude of the task ahead with United now closer to the relegation zone than the top four points.
He said: “Imagine this for a Manchester United fan, imagine this for me.
“You get a new coach who loses more than the previous coach. Imagine that. We have to survive this moment. I know that
“We are perhaps the worst team in the history of Manchester United. I know you want headlines, but I’m saying this because we have to admit it and change it. So there you go, your title.”
It is difficult to explain – Amorim
United have taken just 11 points from Amorim’s 11 games since succeeding Erik ten Hag in November.
The Portuguese added: “It’s hard to explain, we have to acknowledge the moment and not avoid the problem.
“Everyone here does nothing, regardless of the circumstances. Losing so many games is unacceptable for any club in the Premier League, let alone Manchester United. This is a really difficult moment, but we must continue.
“The opponents are better than us in many details. That we cannot be consistent. To not help my players at this time.
“This is a difficult moment. We must admit that we are in a very difficult situation. All the bad records, losing at home, losing in the Premier League, we’re really bad.”
‘The fans will suffer’
Amorim said he will stick to his preferred methods even if it means more short-term pain.
He said on Sky Sports: “It’s clear. I won’t change the way I see the game, that’s clear to me.
“The players will suffer, the fans will suffer, I’m sorry. I have one way of doing things, but we have to survive this moment. Everyone is very clear about what we are going to do.”
