India’s preparations for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced India’s 15-member squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19. India will begin its campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a meeting with their big rivals Pakistan on February 23, and on March 2 they will meet New Zealand. All matches will be played in Dubai. India made some notable omissions in announcing their squad including Mohammed Siraj and Sanju Samson. The team, which won the champion’s trophy twice – the first time in 2002, shared with Sri Lankaand again in 2013 England – will now have to overcome a difficult group stage without these key players.

Suresh Raina’s perspective: India’s big flop
Raina strongly believed that the exclusion Suryakumar Yadav from the 2025 Champions Trophy squad is a significant setback for India. Raina highlighted Suryakumar’s exceptional batting skills, describing him as someone who can score at a fast pace and turn a game around. Suryakumar’s ability to play unconventional shots, adapt to different game situations and create breakthroughs with his batting will no doubt be missed. Raina also highlighted the challenge India faces due to Suryakumar’s absence, especially in the top-order.
“Surya was an integral part of the World Cup team, he is a 360 player who can score 9 runs per over at any stage of the game. He can dominate opponents and bats in a different way. If Surya had been there, he would have been the X-factor; he would miss. The responsibility will now be on the top 3, who are out of form. Surya is someone who can bat in any positionRaina said at the Star Sports Press Room.
