Carlo Ancelotti responds to Real Madrid sacking speculation by comparing Hansi Flick
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he would “prefer not to say” what would have happened to him if he had overseen a dip in form comparable to Barcelona’s recent results under Hansi Flick.
Ancelotti is under enormous pressure in Madrid after a 5-2 loss to Barcelona in the Supercup of Spain [Spanish Super Cup]but things are hardly much better on the other side of the Clasico. While Flick’s side have impressed in the cup competitions, things have gotten out of hand in La Liga.
Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Getafe means Barcelona they have taken just six points from the last 24 at their disposal – a run of form that has seen them fall four points behind Madrid having played a game more.
Front Meeting between Madrid and Las Palmas on Sunday, five-time Champions League winner Ancelotti was asked if he would survive a similar run of results.
“I’d rather not answer you,” replied the 65-year-old. – It is better to have such problems here than elsewhere, but I would rather not answer.
Fans showed their frustration with Ancelotti by booing the Madrid coach recently, and he admitted that fans have every right to criticize him when things go badly.
“You always have to improve and learn because when you think you know everything – and that’s not the case for me because I like new things – that’s when you start to lose your level,” the Italian admitted. “There are many things I need to improve.
“The coach’s responsibility is to make sure his team plays good football and sometimes we didn’t do that. The Barcelona defeat is my responsibility and I accept the whistles because they are fair, but I don’t think people have forgotten what we have done in the past or what we will do because we fight at the top.”
