Dozens injured in cable car accident at Spanish ski resort
At least 30 people were injured, some seriously, in a cable car accident in Spain’s Astún ski resort in the Pyrenees mountain range, emergency services and local media reported on Saturday.
Nine of the injured were in a very serious condition, while another eight were slightly injured, they said.
State TV channel TVE reported that around 80 people were trapped on the cable car. The cause of the incident is still unknown.
Several helicopters are working in the area to rescue the skiers who are still trapped and transfer the injured to nearby hospitals.
Pictures and a video appeared on social networks showing several people lying on the snow under the cable car.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said he was “shocked” by the news of the crash, expressing his closeness to the injured and their families.
