Trump nominates Penny Schwinn to be deputy secretary of the US Department of Education
President-elect Trump he announced on Saturday that he had chosen Penny Schwinnformer Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Education, as US Deputy Secretary of State Institute for Education.
While in Tennessee, Schwinn oversaw the department’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, implemented Governor Bill Lee‘with school voucher program and overhauled the state’s school funding formula, the Associated Press reported.
Schwinn previously worked at Texas Education Agency as deputy commissioner for standards and engagement, deputy commissioner for special populations and monitoring and chief deputy commissioner for academics.
She was also an assistant secretary education in Delaware.

Trump congratulated Schwinn in a post on Truth Social on Saturday.
“A former teacher herself, Penny became a charter school founder because she believes in power Choice of schooland is committed to delivering the American dream to the next generation by bringing education BACK TO THE STATES,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to Penny and her beautiful family!”

Schwinn received his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. from Claremont.
