Trump administration plans to arrest illegal immigrants across the US ‘on day one’

Incoming Trump administration is looking at immigration arrests of illegal immigrants across the country on the first day, as top officials say they are ready to “take off the handcuffs” of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration is planning a large-scale raid in Chicago on Tuesday, specifically targeting those with criminal backgrounds.

Fox News’ Jesse Watters asked new border czar Tom Homan about media reports of Tuesday’s “major raid” in Chicago, but Homan said ICE will be working nationwide.

“There’s going to be a massive raid across the country. Chicago is just one of many places. We have 24 field offices across the country. On Tuesday, ICE will finally come out and do their job. Let’s take the handcuffs off ICE and let them arrest criminal aliens, that will happen,” he said.

“What we’re saying to ICE is, you’re going to enforce immigration law without apology. You’re going to focus on the worst, the threats to public safety first, but no one is backing off. If they’re in the country illegally, they have a problem,” he said.

The administration has promised a mass deportation operation, as well as increased border security. Officials said they intended to target those with criminal histories and convictions, but also emphasized that they would potentially arrest anyone in the U.S. illegally. There are currently more than 7 million individuals on ICE’s non-custodial warrant.

“The administration has been clear that we’re going to start arresting people on day one, and Chicago probably won’t be the only place where arrests are going to be made,” a familiar source told Fox News Digital.

The administration is expected to face significant resistance “sanctuary” cities. who refuse to allow state and local police to honor ICE detainees – requires that ICE be notified when illegal immigrants in custody are released.

Some Democratic officials in Chicago, as well as in Massachusetts and Arizona, said they would not cooperate with the administration.

But New York City Mayor Eric Adams met with Homan about how they could work together to remove illegal immigrants who have been convicted of violent crimes.

DHS nominee Kristi Noem she testified before Congress on Friday and supported the mass deportation operation and increased border security. She also said the administration would immediately end the use of the CBP One application, which currently allows migrants to be paroled into the US
