Newcastle vs Bournemouth: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Newcastle United are looking to make history on Saturday lunchtime when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Magpies secured the ninth consecutive victories in all competitions on Wednesday after the triumph against Wolves, with three points against Bournemouth to set a new club record for back-to-back wins. Star striker Alexander Isak is chasing his own record as he has now scored in eight consecutive league games, with Jamie Vardy’s 11-goal run the current standard.

After a mediocre start to the campaign, the Magpies are now firmly in the picture for Champions League qualification having moved up to fourth in the table. They sit above Chelsea and Manchester City in the table following their resurgence.

However, Bournemouth will be challenging customers and are enjoying an impressive ride themselves. Unbeaten in their last ten matches in all competitions, they know victory at St James’ Park will move them within a point of their Tyneside opponents as Andoni Iraola continues to steer the Cherries’ rise despite a relentless injury spree.

Here 90 minutes a guide to Newcastle in relation to Bournemouth.

Newcastle will be keen to see the return of Fabian Schar this weekend after he missed the win over Wolves through illness. Jamaal Lascelles also remains out at centre-back, while Nick Pope is still sidelined with a knee injury.

Injury-prone Harvey Barnes is back in the treatment room after picking up a thigh injury during the weekend win over Bromley in FA Cup. He is expected to be out for a month, while Callum Wilson also remains unavailable with a hamstring problem.

Predicted line-up of Newcastle vs Bournemouth (4-3-3): Dubravka; Livramento, Botman, Schar, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Isaac, Gordon.

Bournemouth are going through an injury crisis with James Hill joining the treatment room after the midweek trip to Chelsea. He joins fellow right-backs Julian Araujo and Adam Smith on the sidelines, with Marcos Senesi also missing in defence.

Alex Scott, Enes Unal and Evanilson are all long-term absentees and have each undergone surgery, although the former is closer to a return. Marcus Tavernier and Luis Sinisterra are also sidelined, leaving Iraolo with few attacking options.

Predicted line-up for Bournemouth vs Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Cap; Cook, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Christie, Adams; Brooks, Kluivert, Semenyo; Ouattara.

With Newcastle in such outstanding form and Bournemouth plagued by injuries, Eddie Howe’s side should claim a record 10th consecutive victory in all competitions. The Cherries fielded a bench made up almost entirely of young players against Chelsea, and their scrappy squad is likely working on burnout.

While Bournemouth have the ability to disrupt the Newcastle machine. the form of Isak, Anthony Gordon and the robust midfield of the Magpies should lead them to victory. After struggling to score earlier in the campaign, they have now scored two or more in their last 11 games and should score a few more on Saturday lunchtime.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Bournemouth
