Chelsea are making contact to land a “pure diamond” as an upgrade on Nkunku
Chelsea have gone through a difficult period in recent weeks, with Enzo Maresca seeing his side stutter after such an impressive first few months Premier League campaign.
The Blues were at one point second, just a few points behind leaders Liverpool, but after a run of just one win in their last six league matches, they have dropped to fifth, ten points adrift of Arne Slott, who has a game in hand.
However, the Italian and his players remain in a solid position to secure a top-four finish at the end of the season, but it is crucial that the dip in form is rectified as soon as possible to prevent further points being lost.
The opening of the January transfer window has given the boss another chance to either bring in new additions or release players he no longer feels are of use to the first team.
Unsurprisingly, a number of names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with another name thrown into the mix entering the final few weeks of the market.
Chelsea are in talks with a land-based attacking star
According to journalist Christian Falk, Chelsea have done the negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a potential deal for the striker Karim Adeyemiahead of potential changes at the end of the season.
However, the Blues are not alone in their chase with the Italian side Napoli is also interested in the move as German star Khvich Kvaratskhelia is set to join PSG in the coming days.
It is not the first time that the Maresca team is interested in the 22-year-old, and the summer window is also in sight big rumors about the deal for young people.
However, he would be a great addition for the Blues – even if they have to wait until the summer for him to arrive – adding extra quality to the frontline, with his tally eight combined goal contributions in just 11 games this season.
Such a move could spell the end for a player for whom game time has been extremely difficult to come by since moving to West London a few years ago.
Why would Adeyemi be an upgrade on Nkunku
In recent days, Chelsea has advertised with a move to the mainland Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel this month, but no deal has been finalized yet.
The 19-year-old is a young talent, who undoubtedly has a huge future in the game, but has so far failed to make an immediate impact this campaign, failing to record a single goal or assist during 2024/25.
Any move for the young French star could potentially see a current member of the first team Christopher Nkunku to go in a different direction and join the giants of the Bundesliga.
The 27-year-old joined the club in A £52m deal with RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, but missed most of his debut campaign with a knee injury – which limited him on only 14 performances in the process.
However, he made 28 appearances, scoring 13 times in his second seasonbut he was mostly limited to minutes off the bench, starting just three times.
As a result, it would not be a surprise to see him move to Germany this month, and Adeyemi would potentially prove to be an upgrade on the PSG academy graduate, should he make the switch at some point in 2025.

Adeyemi, who was called “pure diamond” talent scout Jacek Kulig, has registered more league contributions than Nkunku, while also representing higher shot rate on target – showing his clinical sharpness in attacking areas.
The German is also very versatile, more than capable of playing on both wings, as his higher score shows successful downloads and a generally better download success rate.
It is unclear how much any potential deal for the Dortmund ace would cost the club, but it is evident that he possesses plenty of qualities that would benefit Maresca’s side moving forward.
As for Nkunku, it’s a shame he hasn’t been able to cement his place in the starting XI, with potentially the right move to allow him to develop – especially when they have an option like Adeyemi, who would be better than a player ready to leave.
