Man Utd are eyeing the Barcelona centre-back to solve defensive woes under Ruben Amorim
Manchester United have reportedly turned to Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen in a bid to address their poor defensive performances of late.
United equaled the club’s all-time record of 18 goals conceded in the calendar month of December, losing four games in all competitions, and five of their last six in the Premier League alone.
To try to solve their problems in the background, Mundo Deportivo state United they are keeping a close eye on Christensen, who could be allowed to leave Barcelona in 2025 after falling down the pecking order. The Dane’s absence due to injury during the first half of the season also proved crucial for Dani Olmo’s registration.
Perhaps Christensen’s experience of playing in the back three works in favor of him. It was his time at Chelsea, the heart of Antonio Conte’s defence, that established him on the international stage and, although he has since been mostly used in a defensive duo, his influence with the Italian has not been forgotten.
However, United could face a battle to convince Christensen to leave Barcelona as he recently admitted, he has no plans to leave Catalonia yet.
“I can only speak from the conversations I’ve had with the club, and so far they’ve only said to make sure I’m ready and they’re looking forward to me coming back,” he told TV Sport 2 as he prepares to return from injury.
“Of course [I’m staying at Barcelona]. I approach it with the attitude that it will be difficult. [Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Ronald Araujo] they’ve done incredibly well, and it’s up to me to knock them down. The ultimate goal is to come back and play as many games as possible, but it will be difficult.”
