The Democrat from Michigan refused to form a coalition with her ‘unaffiliated party’: ‘I’d rather be alone’
A Michigan Democrat is rejecting a caucus coalition with her own party in the state legislature, citing a large “turnout” from voters after refusing to focus on key issues after the party’s 2024 loss.

HOW KAMALA HARRIS’ FAILED 2024 PRESIDENTIAL BID MIRACLES HER DISAPPOINTED 2020 CAMPAIGN
“I’m not going to clash with them because of their subjects and the fact that they’re unrelated,” Whitsett told Harris Faulkner. “They’re still using the same rhetoric that lost the race, so why am I going to engage in a cocoon with a group that’s completely unrelated?
“I can read the bill, so I don’t need someone to tell me how to vote,” she continued. “Clearly they’ve messed up the whole voting system as it is, so why would I do that? I’m better off on my own, reading my bills and running things for my district.”
Whitsett also said News from Detroit another reason he won’t negotiate with Democrats is that he works closely with Matt Hall, the Republican House Speaker.
She noted that her left-wing colleagues could accuse her of leaking information to Republicans if she socialized with them, and before that she did not regularly gather with her party.
Whitsett, who has previously endorsed President Biden but previously met with President-elect Donald Trump, told Faulkner that she “totally understands” Trump’s historic support from communities of color, who historically vote dark blue, in the 2024 election.

“I totally understand,” Whitsett said. “So do people like it, do they expect it, or do they accept it? Absolutely not. Because you’re a black woman in Lansing really in an old white man’s world. So it’s not heard that you can work across the aisle. Nobody really likes the fact that that you’re doing, but if I were white, they’d just pat me on the back and say, ‘Great job.'”
