Moyes is chasing his next Lingard masterclass at Everton
David Moyes endured a difficult return to the Goodison Park club on Wednesday night, s Everton defeated at home against Aston Villa. It was a tight game, but then the Toffees need to capitalize on small differences down the stretch.
Dominic Calvert-LewinHis late miss extended his goalless streak to 16 Premier League games, and it’s becoming abundantly clear – if it hasn’t already – that the 27-year-old should be replaced this month, especially as he’s out of contract this summer.
Armando Broja’s ankle injury is a cruel blow for a player looking for a break, but from a financial point of view, the likely recall of the loan star to Chelsea frees up space for Everton to strengthen.
While a new striker is wanted, the Toffees’ new owners, The Friedkin Group, are sniffing around other positions as well.
Everton are eyeing a January signing
According to TEAMtalkEverton are showing a ‘concrete’ interest in signing Ernesto Nuamah, with the Lyon striker excitingly wanted by the side new centre-forward.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big name failures. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across the Football FanCast.
The report suggests that Ligue 1 are seeking a fee in the region of £25m for the youngster, although the Toffees could instead offer a loan deal this month, which would include a buy-back option.
While TFG may have reservations about adding a third right-wing loanee to the Goodison Park squad, Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison are fighting to reduce the problem.
Everton failed to sign the winger from Ghana last summer but could now prevail after his struggles at Lyon this term. Given it could be the initial short-term stay from January, Moyes could even repeat his own Jesse Lingard masterclass.
Why Everton should sign Ernesto Nuamah
Nuamah is still only 21 but has shown flashes of brilliance with Lyon, having played 51 appearances until now. Analyst Ben Mattinson described him as an “explosive, physical wing” and a “relentless menace”.
According to FBrefNuamah ranks in the top 17% of positions in Ligue 1 this season for progressive carries and tackles per 90, highlighting a strong and diverse skill set that could be perfect for Moyes’ system.
With a new centre-forward in the mix, Everton may just be on the cusp of an exciting new attacking force to start a new chapter in their rise. After all, Moyes loves January reinforcements, welcoming Jarrod Bowen to the London Stadium as his first port of call in January 2020, a month after his appointment.
As for the case, Nuamah could prove to be the next version of Lingard for the Scottish tactician, with the former Three Lions star enjoying the most prolific period of his career as a West Ham player.
Lingard signed for West Ham in January 2021 after sitting out as a non-entity at Manchester United for the first half of the 2020/21 campaign.
Success in football is fleeting and Lingard, now 32 and playing in South Korea, epitomizes that, but his brief spell under Moyes stands as one of the most legendary loan spells in Premier League history.

There is a purple blob and then there is purple spot. Moyes will be hoping to repeat the trick with Nuamah, albeit perhaps with one eye on the future, and tie down the Ghanaian to a long-term stay on Merseyside that could mold him into a top Premier League star.
