Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said he understood the fans who booed him and his team during their 5-2 Copa del Rey win over Celta Vigo.
Real were beaten 5-2 by rivals Barcelona last week and then blew a two-goal lead against Celta – before rallying to win in extra time.
Sections of the crowd made their feelings clear as two late goals – including a stoppage-time penalty from former Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso – saw them level after 90 minutes.
But Real responded with victory as teenager Endick scored twice in extra time to book their place in the quarter-finals.
“I see it as a wake-up call from the team’s fans and its coach. It’s an acceptable wake-up call after what happened in the game against Barcelona. After that, the team reacted well,” Ancelotti said.
“The fans booed to wake us up, and later because the team started complicating the game we were well on our way to win 2-0.
“But then the fans started pushing and when Santiago Bernabeu pushes, it’s something special for us.
“It’s good that we played well in overtime and managed to win the game, so it was all good in the end.”
Ancelotti was not happy with the goals his team conceded and called on his players to stay focused in the final minutes of matches.
“The tension drops at the end. We made two mistakes and let the opponent get back into the game, we left it open in a game that was practically over with a two-goal lead,” Ancelotti said.
“We gave our opponents two late goals when the game was about to end. First, we made a bad mistake in throwing the ball in, and then in the second goal it was the result of bad positioning in defense. We played very well for more than 70 minutes.
“Obviously this is something that cannot happen. We have to try to train more to avoid mistakes like this and not to slow down at the end of games.”
