Jasprit Bumrah brings significant injury news after reports of bed rest
Jasprit Bumrah has put an end to rumors about his form, as the Indian pacer has categorically denied reports that he has been advised rest due to swelling in his back. The 31-year-old fast bowler dismissed the claims with humour, calling them baseless and coming from unreliable sources.
With the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy on the horizon, Bumrah’s participation remains in serious doubt after he suffered a back spasm during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. While the BCCI has been tight-lipped about Bumrah’s availability, there has been a lot of speculation about his injury.

A source was quoted by the Times of India as saying, “Bumrah might go to the CoE next week, but there is no fixed date yet as of now. He was advised to rest at home to allow the muscles to recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, the future course of action will be determined.”

After the news spread like wildfire, Jasprit Bumrah was forced to take to his social media to quell the rumours. He laughed off “fake news” and called the source “unreliable.” The Indian pacer took down the report while tagging the content creator on X, which was later deleted following the Indian star’s reaction.
Bumrah posted on X, “I know it’s easy to spread fake news but this made me laugh. Sources unreliable,” with a few smiley emojis.

Meanwhile, the Indian pacer was in stellar form last year across the format before picking up a back spasm on the Australian tour, where he took 32 wickets in nine innings to win the player of the series award.
Bumrah is currently the highest-ranked bowler in the ICC Test rankings and has also been awarded the ICC Player of the Month for December 2024 for his outstanding performance in the recent Test series against Australia.
BCCI postpones ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad announcement due to fitness issues of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav
He took 22 wickets in three Tests at an average of 14.22 last month in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah was also recently nominated for two top accolades at the ICC Awards 2024 — the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year Award and the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year for his incredible bowling performance in 2024.
Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 before the deadline and the reason for this delay is the uncertainty surrounding the physical fitness of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.
The Men in Blue will begin their 2025 Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, UAE.
