Liverpool hold on at Forest, while Man City stumble as a two-goal lead falls | Football news

Premier League leaders Liverpool bounced back to draw at Nottingham Forest, but Man City dropped the lead at Brentford.

Nottingham Forest showed off their incredible Premier League titles tying Liverpool 1-1underpinning their win over the leaders earlier in the season.

It took a Diogo Jota corner header in the 66th minute for Liverpool to earn a point to maintain their six-point lead over Forest, who moved into second place in their improbable bid to qualify for the Champions League — and maybe and more.

Forest remain the only side to have beaten Liverpool in the league this season – at Anfield in September – and were on course to record an incredible home-and-away double over Arne Slott’s side after top scorer Chris Wood scored in the eighth minute.

Liverpool later increased the pressure but again failed to beat Forest, who started the season more in a relegation battle than a title fight.

More problems for Premier League champions Man City

Manchester City showed more late-game mistakes as they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Brentford.

City conceded in the 82nd minute and again in two minutes of stoppage time after Phil Foden scored twice for the struggling champions, who are simply struggling for a Champions League place this season.

Prior to winning their last two league games against Leicester and West Ham, City had won just one of their nine Champions League qualifying games. During that poor run, City conceded two late goals to lose to Manchester United, while also blowing a three-goal lead late in a 3-3 draw against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

Yoane Wissa and Christian Norgaard scored as Brentford left City in sixth place.

Chelsea are fighting for a home draw against Bournemouth

Chelsea salvaged a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth thanks to a Reece James free-kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but their league winless run extended to five games.

Cole Palmer put Chelsea ahead with a cheeky 13th-minute strike for his 14th goal of the season, only for Bournemouth to hit back after Antoine Semenyo won a penalty — converted by Justin Kluivert — to break the home side’s ascendancy in the 68th.

Chelsea remain in fourth place – at least until their game against fifth-placed Newcastle on Wednesday. Graham Potter secured his first win as West Ham manager as his new side beat Fulham 3-2.

Carlos Soler and Tomas Soucek scored in the first half before Lucas Paqueta grabbed a crucial third for West Ham, who brought in Potter last week as a replacement for the sacked Julen Lopetegui.

Potter’s first game in charge was the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa on Friday. Alex Iwobi scored Fulham’s goals for 2-1 and then for 3-2. With the win, West Ham moved closer to the relegation zone to 10 points.
