Bourbon Street Terrorist Investigated Attack in Germany Before Deadly Rampage: FBI


The FBI has released a new image The terrorist attacker from New Orleans Shamsud-Din Jabbar along with new details about his internet browsing history as the investigation into the New Year attack continues.

In a press release, the FBI said the Bourbon Street Terrorist’s online history showed he was researching access to the Bourbon Street balcony, information about Mardi Gras and a shooting that took place in the city, as far back as mid-November.

Investigators also revealed that Jabbar had been investigating an attack on a Christmas market in Germany just hours before attack on Bourbon Street.

Officials said that on Nov. 10, Jabbar took a train from Houston, Texas to New Orleans and returned to Texas the same evening by bus.

While in town, investigators learned that Jabbar looked at an apartment for rent on Orleans Street. Just a few days after the trip, he applied to rent an apartment, but later told the landlord that he had changed his mind.

He also used Meta smart glasses to record video of his surroundings while cycling through the French Quarter months before carrying out the deadly attack.

The FBI previously noted Jabbar traveled to Cairo, Egypt this month from June 22 to July 3, 2023, and then returned to the US. On another trip on July 10, 2023, he traveled to Ontario, Canada, and returned to the US a few days later.

Officials say evidence obtained in the ongoing investigation shows that Jabbar became “a more devout Muslim in 2022.” and that he began to follow extremist views in the spring of 2024.

“It’s pretty clear by now that this is a guy who was radicalized online and was determined to try to kill as many innocent people as possible in the name of ISIS,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a previous interview with “60 Minutes.” . .”

FBI officials also updated the number of people injured in the attack to 57 — up from the FBI’s previous count of 35.

Officials said a total of 136 victims have been identified, including two businesses that suffered damage.

Jabbar killed 14 civilians when a Ford F-150 rental truck plowed through New Year’s Eve crowds celebrating on Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 1. He then started shooting at the police, who returned fire, killing the assailant.

“The FBI, along with our partners, continues to work around the clock to determine what motivated Shamsud-Din Jabbar to drive his truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street. Thanks to the overwhelming response from the public, the FBI is one step closer to getting answers for those families who have lost loved ones and other victims of the New Year’s Day attack,” FBI officials said in a statement.
