Bayern Munich responded to Christopher Nkunku’s interest as Chelsea set their asking price
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund played down reports of interest in Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku.
After being forced to accept a back-up role under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresco, Nkunku has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this month, with reports from Germany naming the 27-year-old Bayern’s top January target transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea slapped a €70m (£59.1m) price tag on Nkunku’s head, while The Telegraph put that figure closer to £65m. Such a figure would see Chelsea cash in on the initial £52m paid to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023.
As part of the negotiations between the two clubs, Chelsea is once again expressed their interest in signing Bayern forward Mathys Telalthough the Bundesliga players have already confirmed their desire to keep the young Frenchman.
Freund, who previously played down the idea of a move for Nkunku at the end of 2024, has again distanced Bayern from a move to Chelsea forward.
When asked if Nkunku was being discussed in Munich, Fruend said Sky Sports Germany: “No!
“If that’s the case, let’s continue the season [with the current squad]what is our plan, then it is not a topic of conversation to bring in a striker, because we are very, very well positioned here, both in terms of quality and numbers.”
Despite Freund’s public insistence, reports claim Bayern they have already agreed personal terms with Nkunku, who wants to return to the Bundesliga this month.
