Yograj Singh takes a shocking U-turn against MS Dhoni, calls him a “motivated captain”

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has sharply changed his comments about legendary captain MS Dhoni. Yograj recently called Dhoni a “motivated captain” who knew how to read the wicket and get the best out of his bowlers.

Yograj also called Dhoni “fearless” and revealed an incident when he was unfazed by the fearsome bowler in the world. Yograj’s recent comments came as a big shock as he had previously criticized Dhoni for ruining his son Yuvraj Singh’s career.

Yograj Singh takes a shocking turn towards MS Dhoni

While speaking on the YouTube show “Unfiltered by Samdish”, Yograj Singh was asked about MS Dhoni and his captaincy. Yograj called Dhoni a motivated captain and claimed that he can read the wicket quickly.

“I see (MS) Dhoni as a very motivated captain, who can tell people what to do. The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read the wicket which can tell the bowlers where to bowl,” remarked Yograj.

Calling him a ‘fearless’ man, Yograj cited an incident that showed the world how fearless Dhoni is. He also feels that players with such a fearless attitude are very few in modern day cricket.

“What I liked most about him was that he was a fearless man. If you remember in Australia, he was hit on the grill by my Mitchell Johnson and he didn’t move a bit, he just stood there and on the next ball he pulled him for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him),” he added.

During an interview with Zee Switch’s YouTube channel in 2024, Yograj Singh came down hard on MS Dhoni and blamed him for ending Yuvraj Singh’s career. He even asked Dhoni to look in the mirror and refused to forgive him.

“I will not forgive MS Dhoni. You should look at your face in the mirror. He is a very great cricketer, but what he did against my son, now everything is coming to light; that can never be forgiven in life,” said Yograj.

He even went to the extent of claiming the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, for his son Yuvraj Singh for winning the World Cup for India in 2011 despite suffering from cancer.

“I challenge anyone to give birth to a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said in the past that there will not be another Yuvraj Singh. India should award him the Bharat Ratna for playing with cancer and winning the World Cup for his country,” he reckoned.

MS Dhoni ready to play IPL 2025

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. However, he is still an active player in the Indian Premier League. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman continued to play for Chennai Super Kings even after his retirement and led the team to win the IPL titles in 2021 and 2023.

Dhoni will be next seen in action during IPL 2025 after the franchise retained him in the uncapped player category. He was retained by CSK for INR 4 crore. He dismissed reports of his retirement and wants to enjoy the game as long as he plays.
