David Moyes returns to Everton as head coach after sacking Sean Dyche
David Moyes has been re-appointed Everton manager, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Everton, currently in 16th place in the Premier League, are in the relegation battle with just three wins from 19 matches this season.
The former West Ham boss will take over from Sean Dyche, who was sacked following the takeover of the Friedkin Group.
“I have enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and I did not hesitate when offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club,” Moyes said in a statement.
“We now need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fantastic new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Moyes previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, guiding the club to some of its best moments in the top flight.

After a successful spell at Preston, Moyes took over at Everton in March 2002, inheriting a relegation-threatened team similar to the one he has now.
He quickly stabilized things, leading them to numerous top eight finishes in the Premier League.
During his time at Goodison Park, Moyes guided Everton to the 2009 FA Cup final and secured a fourth-place finish in the 2004–05 season, qualifying them for the Champions League.
He has also played a key role in developing young talent, giving Wayne Rooney his professional debut and signing key players such as Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini.
Moye’s managerial career since leaving Everton has been a combination of success and challenge.
He succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but struggled to replicate his predecessor’s success, being sacked after less than a year in charge.
Subsequent managerial roles at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham produced mixed results.
He enjoyed considerable success with West Ham, leading them to two top-seven finishes and securing their first major trophy in 43 years by winning the European Conference League in 2023.
