Everton are expected to announce Sean Dyche’s replacement soon
David Moyes is on the verge of being appointed Everton manager for a second time, after agreeing to replace Sean Dyche at the Goodison Park club.
The 61-year-old left West Ham United last summer after a hugely successful spell at the London Stadium where he ended the Hammers’ 43-year wait for a trophy.
Moyes used to be Evertonmanager between 2002 and 2013, where he was named LMA Manager of the Year three times. He left the club to join Manchester United, succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, but saw out just nine months of the six-year deal he signed at Old Trafford before being sacked.
The Athletic report that Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), have quickly identified Moyes as their number one target after deciding to forego Dyche’s services hours before the win over Peterborough in the third round of the FA Cup.
It is expected that he will soon sign a contract for two and a half years – Sky Sports state that an agreement has been reached between both parties – and it is believed that TFG want Moyes to ‘lay the foundations’ for the club ahead of their move to the new 52,888 stadium located at Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall.
Moyes’ first task will be to help Everton stave off the threat of relegation. The Toffees are just a point above the relegation zone in 16th place, with two points taken from the last 15 available, and will need to improve their poor record in front of goal.
Indeed, Everton have scored just 15 times this season – the only club in last place Southampton they have a worse record – and have won only three of the 19 games they have played.
