Weekend winners: Cherie d’Am eager for success at Towton | Racing news

As sub-zero temperatures continue to hamper the national hunting season, the Weekend Winners team is back in search of successful bets for Ffos Las.

Presenter Kate Tracey joins BetVictor’s Sam Boswell and At the races Declan Rix to discuss what remains of the weekend’s action following the suspension of Kempton’s Lanzarote Handicap meeting.

The trio begin with an eye on the Towton Novices’ Chase, which takes place at Ffos Las at 1.15pm on Saturday – live on Sky Sports Racing

Stand on your hands is super, super smart! It was a shame to see him on debut in a hunt where he lived up to his name, but good to see he’s no worse for that autumn at Wincanton. He showed a lot of resilience at Sandown last time when he was more prominent – which I liked to see.

“He suited him up to three miles on the proving ground – so however the ground comes up at Ffos Las he won’t care at all. He’s class on the ground and I think he’ll get another grade two if he goes here.”

Sam Boswell

“I agree Cherie d’Am. I backed You Wear It Well at Warwick but the winner was absolutely lethal from the first under Harry Skelton. Last year at this time, the Skeltons had a six-figure tally this weekend, but there’s clearly no Warwick this time around – a course they do well on.

“However, I think she’s a serious horse that will serve anything else that comes along. Also, kudos to the start of the race. I think it’s very important that we were agile as a sport and hopefully we’re in for a good race.”

Declan Rix

“I don’t remember many mares holding onto the fences that well Cherie d’Am. She was dynamite around Carlisle and after that she excelled again at Warwick. It’s a slight downside that the race isn’t at Wetherby as the featured races are suited to that track, but it’s incredibly lovely. Maybe JP will come in for her again!

“She really has to deliver the punishment but I’m a big fan of her and Skelton yard – they’re a serious operation.”
