BCCI will honor Jay Shah at a special general meeting
BCCI is all set to celebrate Jay Shah’s big leap to the top of cricket administration. Shah, who recently became the ICC president, will be felicitated at the board’s special general meeting (SGM) on January 12. Although Shah will not attend the meeting, the BCCI plans to make his felicitation a major highlight of the event.
Jay Shah’s Journey to ICC Presidentship
Jay Shah took over as ICC President on December 1, 2024, bringing years of experience in cricket administration. His cricket journey started with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) in 2009 and since then he has become one of the most powerful figures in world cricket.

During his time as BCCI secretary, Shah oversaw some major milestones. He played a major role in the development of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium. It also helped India to host the entire 2023 Cricket World Cup.
Big decisions under the Shah’s leadership
Since taking over at the ICC, Shah has already made several big calls. One of the most talked about decisions was dealing with hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The ICC confirmed this Pakistan will host the tournament, but all matches between India and Pakistan will be played on a neutral ground.
“The ICC board has approved the matches between India and Pakistan during ICC events from 2024 to 2027 will be played at neutral venues,” the ICC said in a statement.
The SGM will also see the election of a new BCCI secretary and treasurer. These roles have since become vacant Jay Shahpromotion to ICC chairman and election of Ashish Shelar as MP for Maharashtra.
