World Obesity Day: India struggles with a growing health crisis

After the US and China, India has the third highest percentage of obese citizens in the world, with over 135 million Indians classified as overweight or obese. In light of this alarming trend, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a campaign against obesity throughout the country. In the meantime, the growing obesity rate adds cases of diabetes, and India numbered 212 million diagnosed adults in 2022. Some native Indians turn to bariatric surgeries that help reduce food consumption by removing part of the stomach, while others prefer traditional methods such as acupuncts. KHANS JUNED AND LISA GAMONET report from France 24.
