When President Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajaks fled the country in 2022 in the midst of mass protests and economic crises, Parliament chose a veteran politician and sixfold Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as a replacement.
As president, Wickremesinghe neglected the greatest rescue in the country, but his critics say that part of the institution that closed his eyes to war crimes and corruption and interfered with the fundamental changes that protesters sought.
