The Education Department is significantly dismantled in Novi Trump’s executive order

President Donald Trump He signed an executive order on Thursday to reduce the Ministry of Education – a move that is expected to encourage lawsuits that will challenge the directive and will probably require the approval of the congress.
Trump often discussed plans for Nix Department of Education Giving himself from the campaign and he said in September 2024 that he wanted to reduce the impact of the Federal Government on education to “stop the abuse of dollars of your taxpayers to indoctrinate US youth.”
“Everyone knows it’s right, and we have to educate our children,” Trump said on Thursday. “We are not doing well with the world of education in this country, and we do not have a long time.”
As a result, there is a list of white house facts at the executive order, the Directive aims to “surrender education to families instead of bureaucracy”, and points to the Linda McMahon Secretary -based secretary to “take all the necessary steps to close the education department and restore the authority to education in the countries, at the same time about effective and unauthorized services.”

However, Karolina Leavitt’s White House secretary told reporters earlier on Thursday that the executive command would not completely close the agency, but would only “diminish it”.
In addition, she said that the remaining agency would continue to monitor Pell Grants and student loans that provide financial assistance to undergraduate students.
“It won’t be closed,” Leavitt said. “Pell Grarants and Student Laborings will continue to run out of departments in Washington, DC, but a great responsibility for the education of our country’s students will return to the United States.”
The White House did not immediately respond to the Fox News Digital comment request to clarify what the Ministry of Education would do. The Ministry of Education did not immediately respond to the Fox News Digital commentary request.
In the meantime, a survey of Gallup published in February shows that the satisfaction of Americans has been significantly declining in the last decade. The White House opposed the state of American education and declining tests from now.
The critics in the White House pointed to the “National Reporting Card”, the National Assessment of the Progress of Education (NAEP) in 2024 published every two years, published on January 27. The exam is tested by fourth and eighth grade students, and they have found that they are almost a standing mathematical results for eight -graders compared to a score of 2 points.
The Department of Education, founded in 1979, seeks to improve the coordination of federal educational programs and support state and local school systems, according to its website. He also oversees student loans and programs of financial assistance and policy of undiscry.
The executive power should be delayed for the eradication of the Agency, according to Article II of the American Constitution. In addition, this measure would need 60 votes in Senate, and currently only 53 Republicans.
Nevertheless, Rev. Thomas Massie, R-Ky, on Wednesday X suggested that the Senate use the budget alignment process to adopt a measure, which would require only 51 votes. Massie led the legislative efforts to withdraw the agency and introduce a measure on January 31 at the NIX Ministry of Education until December 2026.
There is also support in the Senate for such legislation.
“I agree with President Trump that the Ministry of Education missed its mission,” said Senator Bill Cassidy, R-L., In a Fox News Digital statement. “Since the department can only be excluded with the approval of the congress, I will support the president’s goals by submitting the law that will achieve this as soon as possible.”
Even without completely closing the agency, Trump’s administration has moved to a significant reduction of its strength. On March 11, the Ministry of Education revealed plans to reduce its staff of only more than 4,000 people in half.

If the efforts to close the agency move forward, the president of the National Association for Education Becky Pringle warned that the Faculty would become more expensive for families and that students with disabilities would suffer.
“If they are successful, Trump’s permanent actions will be harmed by all students by sending class sizes, reducing job training programs, making higher education more expensive and out of reach for middle -class families, taking away special education services for students with disabilities and swallowing the protection of students’ civil rights,” Pringle said on Wednesday night.
Likewise, the American Federation of Teachers urged Congress in early March to oppose any executive orders to dismantle agencies. The teacher’s union pointed to a survey of eg/PBS News/Marist conducted in February, which revealed that more than 60% of Americans “strongly oppose” eradicating the agency.

Legal procedures opposed to Trump’s actions are already ongoing. A group of lawyers from 21 countries filed a report of the US District Court of District Massachusetts on March 13 after being discharged at the Agency.
The lawsuit states that efforts to remove the agency, including release, are “an illegal violation of the separation of the powers and obligations of the executive authority to make sure that the law be enforced faithfully”.
