Syrian white helmets enter after deadly attacks
When violence in the Syria coastal area recently broke out, including the massive killings of civilians allegedly carried out as revenge for attacks on Syrian security forces, voluntary rescuers quickly came to help.
They were part of the Syrian civil protection group known as white helmets, which operated during the civic war in areas that were rebels.
After the fall of former Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in December, white helmets arrived in the capital of Syria, Damascus, welcomed as heroes by those who supported the opposition.
Since then, they have started operating in several areas of war land.
Most killed in recent attacks, which occurred in the period from the day earlier this month, were Alawites – a spending of Shiite Islam and Assad’s minority sects.
Abdulkafi Kayal, Head of Operations for the White helmets in the Syria coastal region, told the BBC that the work of the group went beyond politics: “When we go to save someone in need, we do not ask them about their religion or political opinion … Our mandate is to help those in need.”
During the Civil War, Assad marked White Kacigama a terrorist group, claiming that it worked for armed rebels. But the group always said that it was a neutral, humanitarian organization and praised the world for its work.
“We are Syrians and we cannot separate the care for one area more than the others,” Mr. Kayal said. “It is our homeland, and we consider ourselves an umbrella to serve all the Syrians.”
The recent outburst of violence has been the worst in Syria since the temporary President Ahmed al-Shara has led the offensive of the lightning of the rebels who overthrew Assad.
Tensions have been cooked since December, when the supporters of Assad Killed 14 hulls of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in an ambushTwo weeks after the former president was overthrown.
“We are here to serve everyone without any difference,” Mr. Kayal said.
“Our slogan is” to save one life is to save all of humanity. “
Last week, BBC News joined white helmets while volunteers worked at Tartous after a massacre report in the village of Barmada.
The team retrieved 10 bodies of government fighters, which seemed to be all thrown off the hill in the valley. Their hands and legs were tied, suggesting that they were caught by the opposite side.
Saber, a state security officer who was at the scene, accused Assad Loyalists of being responsible for the death of hundreds of his colleagues. BBC News could not independently check this claim.
“When Syria was released from the Assad regime, we tried to get all under control, unite Syria, with all our governors and components, to renew new Syria that we want to be proud of in the Middle East,” he said.
But he added that it was difficult because “when we took control of the country, we had a personal problem with [anti-Assad] Militia because most of them were victims of chemical attacks, bombs, massacre and many crimes that caused a devastating psychological influence on them. “
Pictures and videos appear to display civilians killing civilians, including children, in coastal areas where Alawit’s murders took place.
One man, Maen, told BBC News that his son and aunt had been killed by security forces. He buried them in his yard so they could stay close.
“We suffered under Assad and now we are prosecuted under this new government,” he said.
Maen’s wife cried as she watched her son’s photo. “What did he do?” she asked. “He was 20 years old and did not hurt anything.”
Al-Sharaa, a temporary president of Syria, founded an independent committee of killing research and insisted that the perpetrators would be responsible.
But if his government wants to prevent a new civil war, many believe that he must prove that he can protect Alavite and ensure the rights of all citizens in Nova Syria.
