Syria al-Sharaa promises to punish the forces responsible for the mass killings | Syrian war news

Syrian temporary President Ahmed al-Sharaa said he would punish him “even among those closest to him” for his participation in the mass killings in the coastal region of the country.

Hundreds are said to have died in violence, including members of the Alawit minority, as well as the security forces sitting the apparent supporters of former President Bashar Al-Assad. Security forces were charged with spending “revenge” attacks after ambushes had been taken against them.

“We fought to defend the oppressed and we will not accept that any blood is spilled unjustly, or without punishment or responsibility, even among those closest to us,” Al-Sharaa said in an interview with Reuters news agency on Monday.

“Many parties have entered the Syrian coast and many violations have occurred,” Al-Sharaa added. “It has become an opportunity for revenge.”

Al-Assad is Alavit, and many leading members of his regime, which was demolished in December, were from the minority, and most of the sunny majority of the country felt disenfranchised by the state that was highlighted by the mass killing of Syrian related to opposition.
