Sourav Ganguly Tears Separate Rishabh Panto over an ‘ultra-aggressive’ test approach: “You can’t keep swinging”
Former India Captain Sourav Ganguly has announced the warning of Wickekekekeper-Batter Rishabh Pant about his approach to hitting a five-game test series against England in June-Serb. Sourav Ganguly stated that Rishabh Pant could not only rely on an aggressive stroke game in conditions adapted to swing in England.
Wiketeper debuted in England seven years ago. After recovering from injuries sustained in the 2022 car accident, he returned his place as an Indian first choice guard. India should play a test series in England as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.
Rishabh Pant must bite a bullet – Sourav ganguly
Rishabh Pant has repeatedly faced criticism for his risky shooting. Speaking during Trailblazers 3.0 from Revsportz, Sourav Ganguly advised Pant to develop a way of thinking to stay in the folds and not always seek the possibilities of the attack.
“[Rishabh] The pant must bite the bullet and play the rocking ball. You can’t swing constantly and expect it to score in a test crice. It is a mentality, determination and bite, “Ganguly said during Trailblazers 3.0 from RevSportz (Via Hindustan Times).
Rishabh Pant’s decent record in English soil tests
Panta returned strongly, achieving a century in his return match. He also achieved running during the loss of a series to avoid in New Zealand. However, his shape dipped in BGT, where he fought in Australian conditions. Panta managed only 255 runs in nine stabs, an average of 28.33.
The 27-year-old played two test series in England in 2018 and 2021. In the country, he hit two centuries, including an extraordinary knock in the final test of the 2018 series and another dominant Ubača in the 2022 -Breeding test.
I don’t see Virat Kohli fails in England – Sourav Gangaly
Sourav Ganguly said Virat Kohli would play a key role in a test series against England. He stated that the rest of the impact line, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Kl Rahul and Shubman Gill, also have to step up.
“They have talent – Virat Kohli, the best in business. I don’t see him falling down in five test matches in England. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Kl Rahul, Shubman Gill – they need to step up,” Gangaly said in the same interview.
“My only concern is that, except Virat and Yashasvi, not average more than 40 away from home. If you want to be a good test team, three or four of your top six shots must be close to 50 in test matches,” he added.
India will aim to return to the test cricket after failing to qualify for the last WTC cycle. One of the main concerns was the inconsistency of the virat kohli with a baton. He has succeeded in Perth during the BGT series, but has not been at best since the start of the home season in September 2024.
