Pope ‘stable’ after yesterday’s respiratory failure, says the Vatican
Pope Francis remained stable after suffering two episodes of respiratory failure on Monday.
In his night update, the Vatican said the Pope does not represent further episodes of respiratory failure or bronchospasm.
“He remained affect, always awake, collaborated with therapies and well -oriented,” the statement said.
The 88-year-old PontiF has been undergoing treatment in the hospital since mid-February.
After the episodes on Monday, the Pope started using an oxygen mask and a fan to help breathing.
This is the second time that the mechanical intervention was used, after spending two days on the fan after a “isolated” breathing crisis that included vomiting on Friday, Vatican said.
It was updated on Tuesday, Saint Sele said Pope Francis back to high -flow oxygen therapy.
During the day he exchanged prayer and rest, and received the Eucharist this morning, he added.
Pope Francis should miss the procession and Mass on Wednesday marking the first day of Lent, a period of six weeks that led to Easter.
He failed to personally express his traditional Angelus prayer in each of the last three weeks.
