Nightmare in paradise: Canary Islands face the wastewater crisis

40 Olympic size pools. It is the amount of wastewater that is dropped daily into the sea around the Canary Islands. There are 400 waste waste points on the islands, and only a quarter of them are legal. Despite tourist flourishing and an increased population on the islands in the last few decades, there have been no appropriate planning for wastewater purification. Most wastewater islands are not treated or barely treated before being thrown into the sea sometimes with illegal channels. Authorities are trying to accelerate the presentation of the most modern plants to purify, but the situation remains very worrying. Our team went to the popular Terranife tourist island to find out more. Report Armelle Exposito, Victoria David and Sarah Morris
