Newcastle Gordon attacker to Miss Cup finals after the club decides not to complain to Red Card
Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon will definitely miss the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on Wembley on March 16th after the club decided not to complain about his sending last week.
Gordon is shown a straight red card for pushing Brighton’s defender Jan Paul Van Hecke and will now start a ban of three games.
Manager Eddie Howe says there was no chance of canceling the decision.
He said, “It’s always a debate and we talked about the club with the appropriate people we needed to talk to about it – lawyers, etc. – and we felt there were not enough reason to appeal.
“There was no intention of Anthony. He didn’t want to hurt anyone.
“But, you have to look at him and ask if there is a chance to be successful and if there is no chance, then the point of appeal – Anthony understands that.”
Eddie Howe on the remaining ‘United’:
“We still have everything to play, all those players who come in the team will feel like they can make a difference. You have to be ready to play, play. We work hard with the players behind the scenes, so everyone … pic.twitter.com/smifeez9wo

Gordon will miss a trip to West Ham on Monday, while the left Bek Lewis Hall went to the season.
“Lewis is in really good shape and plays well, so it’s a big blow for him and us,” Howe said.
“The most important thing is his recovery now and to ensure that he returns as well as he was.”
Botman comes out for two months
Newcastle will still be without defender Sven Botman to travel to London with Howe, revealing that the Dutchman has been out for two months.
Botman has only made five appearances all season.
Howe said, “We tried to bring him closer to the complete fitness with Sven, and he was actually very close to the Brighton game, but the day before he felt the same problem in the knee.
“That meant resetting and we were still hoping he would come back, but this week he felt the same discomfort again, so now it looks like he’ll have to have surgery.
“Hopefully he’ll be back about eight weeks.”
