Naples residents camping outdoors after an earthquake overnight
Many people in the Italian town of Naples spent the night on the streets and in their cars after the earthquake shook the buildings and demolished the ruins.
Italian seismologists said that the tremor of 4.4 on Thursday at 01:25 is local time (00:25 GMT) at a shallow depth of three kilometers (two miles). The American geological examination measured it as 4.2 tremor of 10 km deep.
Power in parts of Naples was disturbed.
In the nearby town of Pozzuoli, near the Earth’s epicenter, one injured person was pulled from the ruins of a partially demolished house.
Naples sits in Flegra’s fields, a volcanic pool that makes up the area in southern Italy prone to earthquakes.
The earthquake on Thursday was felt in several areas of the Campania region, the Italian media reported.
The tremor followed at least two weaker ones.
People were seen leaving their homes and gathering on the streets of Naples, fearing more trembling.
Later, photos showed up a damaged house and a car with a broken windshield.
The Coordination Rescue Center has been erected to assess the damage.
Schools in Pozzuoli and two nearby neighborhoods will be closed on Thursday, so stability checks can be carried out, Corriere della Sera reported.
