My hijab, my choice | Islamophobia
Five British women share their personal experience of suffering discrimination in the UK because they carry a hijab.
In August 2024, Islamophobia raised an ugly head in racing riots in Britain, and attacks on Muslims and mosques in the United Kingdom increased from October 7, 2023.
Women were the target of abuse as much as men.
In this film fully based on their own testimonies, five British Muslim women share their experiences in sincere and often emotional, intimate interviews. They cause Western perception of hijab as a symbol of female oppression and describe it as a strong expression of devotion to their faith, which defines them as strong, independent women.
Women describe the struggle they say they face dignity and respect in British society where they are often offended, attacked and discriminated against, especially in the job market. This film is a research for why many Muslim women decide to wear a hijab, and also a recording of British attitudes on Islam and discrimination in the UK today.
