Members of the Florida City Council have suppressed voting through an ice partnership with local officers


Some members of the Fort Myers City Council were in tears on Monday for voting on a memorandum about the agreement between us Immigration and customs implementation (Ice) and local police.

During the meeting, members of the Council Darla Bonk and Diana Giraldo tortured while expressed opposition to the agreement.

Bonko’s voice broke when she described the risk of losing state and federal assets if she refused to agree.

“It’s a stormy day and age. And this is a day I hate to be in this seat,” Bonk said. “But my city is not for sale.”

Mayors, local officials could face arrest if Trump’s mass deportations are not respected

Giraldo was afraid that the memorandum would be used to racial profiling of Latin American citizens.

“I can’t stand behind it as an immigrant, the only immigrant sitting in this council,” Giraldo said.

The two caught themselves at one point in their remarks.

Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson claimed in favor of the memorandum, emphasizing that they would not give it to officials to go out in search of illegal immigrants by “hitting the door”, but simply the ability to arrest and process illegal immigrants who were accused or convicted of the crime.

The request failed to pass 3-3 votes with one member of the Council that is not present.

Florida Chief Lawyer James Uthmeier responded to a vote on Tuesday by a letter that required the City Council to change his position or risk civic or criminal punishment for the city of the shrine.

“The policies of the Florida Sanctuary are illegal. Your voice last night makes you refuge. Repair this problem or face the consequences,” Uthmeier wrote on X, along with a copy of his letter.

When he arrived for a comment, the Office of the Attorney General pointed out to Fox News Digital for an interview with Fox 4 where Uthmeier talked about the letter.

In the interview Uthmeier said he couldn’t go through a memorandum violate state law forbidding the “sanctuary policies” that prevent the implementation of the Federal Laws on Immigration.

He added that penalties could include removal from duty.

“We look at all the possibilities. We have informed them, but we will not wait long. If they do not immediately correct their problem, then we will take action,” said Uthmeier Fox 4.

However, he did not give a clear time lane when it could happen if the memorandum still had not passed.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Anderson said the city scheduled an emergency meeting on Friday to re -examine the memorandum and hope that it came to a clearer conclusion.

“This is another tool for our police to keep our city. The city management has taken proactive steps to read it, and I hope that the meeting on Friday will lead to a subject of determination with federal and state directives,” said the mayor.

Other members of the City Council did not respond to commenting requests from Fox News Digital on time to publish.
