Christian Eriksen confirmed he expects leave Manchester United at the end of the season, with his contract at Old Trafford in the last months.
Eriksen joined United As a free agent in the summer of 2022, spending the first half of that year, making an extraordinary professional return with Brentford after an almost fatal cardiac arrest at the Euro 2020.
Danish legend was initially a key player, but in the last 18 months she has taken several roles of edge, primarily due to a combination of injuries and old age while hitting his tail career.
As the free agency conceals, Erixen spoke with the Danish publication Tips about what follows.
“My intention is not to stay in England,” the 33-year-old explained.
“This situation is different from when I was a free agent after a cardiac arrest. Then it was about proving that I could still play. Now, only in waiting for the correct opportunity and not making hectic decisions. If something is feeling well, I’ll take.”
Eriksen confirmed that “firm decisions” were not made on where it could be played in 2025/26.
A possible return to Ajax, a club where Erixen first became prominent as a teenager, was not excluded and maintained its capabilities as open as possible, within several key parameters.
Apart from leaving England, the midfielder is also resistant to football major league in the United States, the explanation: “We will not travel that far.” This could also exclude Saudi Pro leagueor truly any other possibilities outside Europe.
Eriksen does not even imagine a return home to Denmark, saying that it is “too early” and that “good years left abroad”, at least suggesting that it could become an option in the years to come.
“In Denmark, players often come back to focus on family and end up their career, but I don’t feel like I’m still there,” he said. “It’s about football and where my career is now standing. Honestly, I spent more time abroad than in Denmark during my career, so moving home would almost feel like I move to a new country. But we’re not there yet.
“Often moving home is a practical choice, not football. Love for the game remains the same no matter where you play. But for me, I still have an ambition to compete at the highest level, be part of the national team and play in the best order. So, I don’t feel like it’s time to go home.”
