Liam Lawson Red Bull says “I don’t have time” and admits that his performances are “not good enough” after qualifying for Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix.
Lawson, who replaced Sergio Perez in the winter, was eliminated in Q1 in two qualifying sessions this season, plus the first part of Sprint qualifying in Shanghai on Friday.
On the contrary, the teammate Max Verstappen qualified the fourth for the Chinese Grand Prix and was less than two tens of Oscar Piastra with a half-sitter.
“It’s just difficult. The window is really small. It’s known, but it’s not an excuse,” Lawson said Sky Sports F1.
“I have to deal with it. It was a messy session and we didn’t deal with traffic, maybe it was fine, but it’s still not good enough.
“In order to have these problems and that is the reason we expel, we should be fast enough in our first round and that should not be a problem. I just have to be on top.”
Lawson also collapsed from the Australian Grand Prix that opened the season last weekend and is facing an exciting challenge to score in Shanghai, when Lights enter at 7am Live on Sky Sports F1 and Sky Sports Main Event.
Asked if he could explain his questions, he added, “I think it’s only time. Unfortunately, I don’t really have time. Driving a F1 car requires 100 percent of trust in what you do.
“It’s not that I don’t feel confident, but the window is so small that I seem to miss me and it’s that I have to deal with.
Red Bull had the ability to choose between Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, which has been with Sister Red Bull since 2021.
Tsunoda qualified for the ninth for Chinese Grand Prix and started fifth place in Melbourne. Rookie Isack Hadjar in China has extinguished Tsunoda and will start the race on Sunday from the seventh.
