American actor Jesse Eisenberg awarded Polish citizenship President Andrzej Duda, after telling the story of the Jewish population during World War II in his Oscar film, a real pain.
Eisenberg wrote, directed and starred in the film, about two American relatives traveling to Poland to pay tribute to their grandmother, the survivor of the Holocaust, which was based on Eisenberg’s great aunt.
He said to a citizenship ceremony: “While we were making this movie in Poland, and I walked the streets and started a little more comfortable in the country, something so obvious to me, which is that my family lived in this place far longer than we lived in New York.
“And of course, history ended so tragically.”
He continued: “Apart from this tragedy of history is a tragedy in which my family no longer felt any relationship to Poland, and that sued me and confirmed that I really wanted to try to reconnect as much as possible.
“And I really hope that tonight at this ceremony and that incredible honor the first step of me, and in the name of my family to reconnect with this beautiful country.”
Eisenberg was inspired to do real pain after the death of his great aunt Doris at the age of 106 in 2019. She grew up in Poland, but fled to the United States in 1938. Other family members who stayed in Poland were killed during the Holocaust.
President Duda said: “I am delighted that people from all over the ocean admit their heritage, they admit that their ancestors come from the Republic [of Poland] and seeks to establish a relationship with our country. “
Eisenberg was nominated for an Academy Award for Writing a Film, while his associate Kieran Culkin won the award for Best Spirit Actor.
