Dan Sheehan scored a hat-trick while Ireland denied victory in a flat six nations in Rome
Dan Sheehan scored a hat-trick, but Ireland disappointingly made a mistake in the last round of six countries, while in Rome they passed next to Italy 22-17.
Hugo Keenan achieved another attempt by Ireland, but the four were everything they could govern, despite seeing Italy by Michele Lamaro Sin-Binned, and Ross Vintcent showed a 20-minute red card.
Ireland stretched to 22-10 in front of the 58th minute, but Italy replied with the next result of Stephen Varney – Monty Ioane, reaching an attempt in the first half – creating a nervous ending.
Despite further chances, Ireland could not achieve again, and Italy then gave a final opportunity to ask for an incredible victory, but one they could not take.
