The Heathrow British Airport closed on Friday after a fire at a nearby electric substation caused an interruption of electricity, airport officials said.

“Heathrow is experiencing a significant interruption of electricity through the airport due to a large fire in nearby electric substation. While fire crews respond to the incident, we do not have a clarity when the power can be reliably renewed,” said Heathrow spokesman.

“We expect significant disorders in the coming days, and passengers should not travel to the airport under any conditions until the airport opens again,” a spokesman said.

The airport will remain closed to at least 23:59 local time on Friday.
