Harry Kane admits ‘surprise’ on the appointment of England Thomas Tuchel, but says he is German ‘more energetic’ than Gareth Southgate | Football news

Harry Kane admitted that he was “surprised” when Thomas Tuchel was appointed Chief Coach of England, but said that German brings more “energy and enthusiasm” role than the predecessor of Gareth Southgate.

Munich Kane Bayern striker has only recently stopped working at a club level with Tuchel when the German was announced as the first main coach of England in more than a decade in October last year, four months after abandoning the role of the main coach of the foreign Bundesliga.

The Captain of England did not initially imagine his former boss as an international manager, but said that it quickly turned to excitement when she made her knowledge that she would reunite.

“I was surprised, if I’m honest,” he said in front of Tuchel’s first game in charge of Albania on Friday night. “I didn’t expect it! I guess I didn’t think about him as a national team coach. But once it was published, I was very excited.

“I was pleased to work with him last year, I knew what he could bring to this type of team we have.

“We were together for only a few days, but he wasn’t disappointed and he brought exactly what I thought he would.

“The camp after the camp, while it settled and as we meet it more, we will improve while we are going, but in the end it is about construction until next year.”

Kane may have best judged the differences between Tuchel and Southgate, playing for the latter as his captain on four main tournaments and in two finals before his resignation last July.

Although he stopped criticizing his former manager, Kane said three lions couldn’t find his rhythm In his last tournament at Euro 2024 Last summer – and added that Tuchel brought more “enthusiasm” to the role of manager of England.

“They are completely different characters, the way they are on the ground and probably beyond,” he said.

“I had a great relationship with Gareth, we were similar in many ways – quite quiet and understandable. We had a lot of talk about things.

“Thomas brings a lot more energy and enthusiasm, but at training and meetings. There is a lot of passion when he talks.

“I saw a lot of that last season, and he was a big reason why I went to Bayern in the first place. I know his attributes and how good the coach is.

“All the guys were impressed with him, now we’re just excited to go out there and started the next chapter.”

“He has already said a lot about getting into a ball as quickly as possible. Last season I had a really good season with him, this team is very different from the one, but I’m excited to start this chapter in England with him.”
