Grenland PM accuses Washington of interfering with political affairs – sets up the US delegation “are not invited”
Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede accused Washington on Monday of interfering with his political affairs by sending a US delegation to Donald Trump’s Danish territory.
Egede said that US national security adviser Mike Waltz would visit Grenland this week with USha Vance, wife of US Vice President JD Vance.
The USha Vance was supposed to attend a race with dogs with her son.
Greenland media reports said the delegation also included American energy secretaries Chris Wright, a former mining director.
They showed pictures of two US aircraft Hercules on the Nuuk Airport asphalt during the weekend as part of a safety team sent to a huge Arctic island.
In an interview with the Greenland Daily Sermitsiaq, Egede said that “the only purpose of visiting a demonstration of power is visited, and the signal should not be misunderstood.”
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen also scored a planned visit, saying to Emiter TV2 to show “appetite among Americans who is inappropriate.”
Lokke noted that “there was only a choice in Greenland and that there was no Greenland government.”

“It should be clearly said that our integrity and democracy must be respected without foreign interferences,” Egede said in a Facebook post.
He added that a visit to the US delegation “cannot only be considered by a private visit.”
“(Waltz) is Trump’s commissioner and the closest advisor, and his presence only in Greenland will surely believe in Trump’s mission, and the pressure will increase after the visit,” Egede told Sermitsiaq.
Ulrik Pram Gad from the Danish Institute for International Studies called a visit to the “aggressive move” of Washington.
“They didn’t call them Greenlanders. The Danes did not invite them. They just announced they would go,” he told AFP.
Greenland’s political parties are currently in the process of negotiating a new coalition government after the election, beaten by Democrats of the right in the middle.
“Usually, as a friend or ally, you would be left without it,” said Pram Gad.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the leader of the Democrat Party and the likely future prime minister, has previously criticized Trump’s Ambition Greenland as “inappropriate”.
On Monday, Nielsen said that negotiations for the new coalition government continued after the election and that they would not be left to “pressure”.
