Google and Apple will need to check childhood when downloading applications under the newly signed law utah – and the meta celebrates

The US State Utah signed a law on Wednesday that requires an app operators such as Apple and Google to Check the child’s age when downloading apps.

The law, which comes into force in May, will put Ous in Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store to check the user’s age, not an app publisher, such as the social media platforms.

Children must be 13 years old to use social networks in the United States, but the app stores have long argued that the responsibility for verification is not lying with them.

Platforms like Instagram And Tiktok is regularly accused of not protecting young people from harassment, addiction and exposure to harmful content.

GIGANT SOCIAL METE META, which owns Facebook and Instagram, welcomed the move in a joint statement with Recording and X.

“We applaud the governor (Spencer) Cox and the state of Utah, because the first in the country that empowered his parents and users more control of the teens application and ask other countries to consider this revolutionary approach,” the statement said.

“Parents want to supervise and approve many applications at one rate that their teenagers want to take over, and Utah has led a way to centralize at the device application store.”

Apple and Google did not immediately respond to the AFP request for comment.

But the trading group of the Technology Industry Chamber warned the law “threatens the privacy of Utah consumer”.

“The legislation has almost certainly provoked another legal battle for speech and privacy problems, similar to the one that broke a similar age of the Utah age check last year,” said the organization, which is largely funded by Apple, Google and European Hand Meta.

“Utah will now have to burn more time and resources, defending this unfortunate proposal in court, instead of actually working on being safer for everyone,” said Robert Singleton, one of the chamber director.
